I haven’t updated the blog in several months and I would love to say that it is because I’m busy writing. However that is not the case. My last post discussed the idea of writing a new story. Which I worked on sporadically and eventually decided that it just wasn’t good enough. I’m not down-hearted about it because this can happen more often than not.
I also have eased up on my reading. I haven’t read any fiction in over two months. This scares me as I love reading short stories as well as writing them. It is one of my goals for this week to read some fiction. It doesn’t take me long and I can only put it down to laziness. I have lots of unread short story collections I could or should be reading.
Raymond Caver is my favourite writer and I have three or four of his collections. There really is no need for me to not read. I also like Flannery O’Connor’s writing and love how she uses symbolism. Though it can at times be difficult to undersand what her intentions might have been.
Ernest Hemingway is another writer that I lke to read. So too is Kate Chopin. When it comes to Chopin I like how she at times reverses the roles associated with the sexes. I particularly like The Story of an Hour.
Whether it is Carver, O’Connor, Hemingway or Chopin. All four vave the ability to grab me with their writing.
