Writing in Autumn

Posted by Dermot in Writing

It’s autumn, my favourite season, but it feels like summer. The sun is shining and the skies are blue. It makes me want to go out and enjoy the sunshine. Which I might do but I would much prefer to write something. Perhaps a new short story even though I already have a story in for submission. Though there is nothing to say I can’t have two stories in the submission stage. I’ve done it before.

There is a problem however. Some journals and magazines only allow you to submit one story at a time or per opening. Which is understandable, they most likely have a lot of stories to read and their time is limited.

I also received another rejection for my story The Student. I think it’s good. However of the ten journals I sent it to none of them accepted it. Rather than be disheartened I will go through it again and see if I can better it in someway not that I really think it needs improvement, but the market dictates I do something with it.

I don’t mind rejections at all. Most of my stories are rejected by at least two or three journals before eventually they are accepted by another one. It is understandable, rejection, I may simply not be or rather my story may not be suitable for the journals I am submitting them too.
